What makes Living Proof MN unique?

Mission: Through peer guidance Living Proof MN empowers people to reclaim their lives and fully recover from their eating disorders, by supporting, instilling hope, and providing the connection needed for recovery.

Vision: Is that people with eating disorders will accept themselves and live a wholehearted life.

Living Proof MN's Core Values:
Kindness: Self-first, treat yourself with kindness and respect, if you don’t, no one else will either. We treat others as we would like to be treated.
Respect: We believe in respecting ourselves and respecting others. We nurture each other unconditionally and without judgement. Treating each other as equals, all deserving respect.
Trustworthiness: We trust ourselves and each other by acting in trustworthy ways.
Courage: To look within yourself, to face your fears head on, to find the strength to want to get better and act on it. This requires self-love, forgiveness, resilience and perseverance. We are here to discover and enhance our strengths. We will end emotional hiding and suffocation.
Curiosity: We come open to understanding new concepts and ways of thinking, we embrace new things. We don’t settle for less than your best self and achieving your highest potential. We challenge perfectionism.
Grow from Experiences: You take the initiative to own your future. That you see hope for yourself by working hard to see recovery and beyond for you. This is not a passive process; recovery requires conscious effort and deliberate actions. We let go of old identities that do not serve us.

Differentiators:
  • Truly 24/7 personalized care with the same mentors for the entire duration of their involvement. This allows participants to create and sustain trusting relationships modeled off of family living.
  • Due to this nontraditional style, mentors have an unconstrained ability to tailor their approaches to each person’s goals and identified struggles.
  • No two days are alike, which helps to sustain flexibility and mimics the real world.
  • Mentors and participants constantly reevaluate the progress, limitations, and barriers. This ensures the evolution of the person, as we know each person is unique.
  • Participants are involved in day to day activities such as grocery shopping, cooking, meal planning, group involvement, discussions, household projects, which allows for a smooth transition back to daily life.
  • People are not treated by their diagnoses, their BMI, or their perceived level of medical compromise. Everyone is celebrated and treated as an individual.
  • We thrive on in depth conversations, as we know that eating disorders are sustained in masked and restricted relationships.
  • We support people by encouraging the removal of internal filters so that we can have safe, meaningful, and productive dialogue.

Shira and the other mentors are experts by experience, having lived through their own eating disorders, they have what it takes to guide others on a self discovery journey to recovery. Living Proof MN and the peer mentors do not provide any medical advice, All participants need to be under the care of a physician and/or psychiatrist.
