Working with a mentor can add invaluable support and perspective for someone struggling with their eating disorder. A mentor has lived experience and is there to walk alongside the participant; asking pertinent questions, guiding choices without judgement, helping to establish new behaviors, challenging their ways of thinking, and ultimately providing hope that recovery is possible.
How to become a mentee: 1. Inquire about the mentorship program 2. Set up an initial consultation 3. Identify your level of commitment and motivation for change 4. Make a decision whether mentoring is right for you. If so, 5. Determine your goals 6. Meet weekly 7. Complete worksheets and journal assignments 8. Attend zoom support groups (optional) 9. Evaluate your progress throughout the time together 10. Make lifelong changes towards a full life in recovery
"Mentoring with Shira has not only been helpful, it has been essential for me. It is certainly a vital component in my path to recovery." -Chase Cunningham, Participant
Fees: Mentoring virtually through zoom is 1-2 times per week (sometimes starts as twice, then decreases to once weekly), with text or email communication in between if/when needed. Family check-ins are encouraged in order to support the process and discuss challenges. When a mentee and I meet, we work to dig below the surface to understand what purpose the eating disorder serves and how to meet those needs in more effective ways; as well as learning and trying new coping mechanisms. We set goals together and troubleshoot when goals are not met. The foundation of my mentoring is to empower people to take ownership of their life and achieve recovery. Please email info@livingproofmn.com to inquire about the costs for mentoring-we are able to make some accommodations with a sliding scale if families are experiencing financial strain.
I offer a free 30 min zoom consult for anyone who is interested.
